Nokia Image Exchange is an exciting, experimental image gallery to make browsing and sharing images fun and easy. It aims to provide a seamless integration of a mobile image gallery application and a corresponding web-service. Image Exchange explores user experience when the mobile phone is enabled with an always-on data connection and utilizes existing contact information as a basis for social networking.

A few notable highlights include: automatic account creation, automatic back up and synchronization of image data, instant sharing, notifications about new images from contacts and a web interface for uploading and downloading images.

Note: The first time you use Image Exchange it may be initially slow as it generates image thumbnails and uploads images onto your private web account. If available, you can use a WiFI network and charger during this period. After initial upload the application should be quite fast.

Notice: Nokia Image Exchange is an experimental research project by Nokia Research Center. For a similar mainstream Nokia service, check out Ovi Share. If network use is enabled Nokia Image Exchange generates data traffic between the mobile phone and the service. The traffic costs depend on your network operator and data plan.

Compatibility and system requirements

Nokia Image Exchange for S60

* Tested on: N95 (all versions), N85, N82 N81 (all models), E71, N76, N78 and Nokia 5320 XpressMusic. Image Exchange should also work on many other S60 3.1 and 3.2 devices.
* Devices known not to work or have issues: N96, E90 and Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

Nokia Image Exchange for S40

* Nokia Image Exchange Lite is a Java client that can be installed to a wider set of phone models than Nokia Image Exchange for S60. It offers a functionality for image sharing including selective uploading of images, publishing and sharing photos to friends and viewing photos that are shared to you. The Lite version is not an imaging gallery like Nokia Image Exchange for S60.
* Supported devices: All Nokia S40 phones.

Nokia Image Exchange web service

* The web service has been tested with Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer 7. Google Chrome and Opera 9 seem to work.

In addition to multiple bug fixes and accelerometer support for 3.2 devices, we've added notifications to inform you about activities relating to your images and contacts. The new version also includes changes to the way connections are made. The new version includes new load balancing architecture that should provide better responsiveness for more users. We would also appreciate any feedback about possible issues this may cause.
