9210/9290: How to make Z: drive (ROM drive) visible in File Manager?

The "core" operating system of Nokia 9210 Communicator is located on Z: drive called ROM drive. This drive is in Flash memory and looks pretty much the same as C: or D: drive, but is hidden from the user. Some programs (like e.g. ZIP Manager Pro) show this drive in file requesters, but this doesn't allow browsing it and using the files contained on it in an easy and convenient way. But now you can use the secret code to unlock hidden Z: drive in the File Manager!

It's very simple:

1. Start File Manager and type ++sp code on the keyboard. Green "++sp" message will be displayed in the upper right corner of PDA screen. Alternative code is volkerscode - it does the same as ++sp. On newer firmware versions, if none of the above mentioned codes works, please try ++rom code.

2. Press Menu key and select Settings... command from Tools menu. You will see a window with two options: "Show system directory" and new option Show ROM. Switch it to Yes.

Now close File Manager and then start it again. You will see Z: drive displayed in the left window. You can browse it just like C: and D: drives. You can also copy files from it and run applications - just like on 'normal' drives.

Note: Z: drive is write protected, which means, that you can only read from it, but you can't modify its contents. This is a good protection against damaging the operating system.
